Hi Folks!
My name is Abhijith Nair. I was born in the state of Kerala in India. Around the age of 9, I moved to Abu Dhabi where I continued my schooling till I was 18. I returned to India to do my Bachelors in Computer Science at IIIT Hyderabad.
During my time at IIIT Hyderabad, I interned at IBM Research in 2017 and in Tower Research Capital (HFT) in 2018.
I passed out in 2019 and I joined Google Munich as a Software Engineer in a team developing tools to improve the health of the SRE Organisation at Google. I led the design and implementation of the frontend parts of the tooling. This included understanding and refining the requirements, conducting usability studies and working with project managers to identify and solve critical user journeys. This was a time where I understood how important good UI/UX is, learnt to appreciate good, intuitive and usable interfaces and completely transformed my view on frontend design and development.
In early 2022, I moved to Google London as an Engineer on the Android WebView team. WebView is a fundamental part of the Android framework and is a component that is used by ~90% of all apps on the PlayStore. I work with different teams (Google Search App, Privacy Sandbox, v8 etc) on solving major use cases for 1P and 3P applications. I am humbled to be in a position where I have the responsibility to positively impact the life of ~3 Billion Android users.
Some artefacts in the public domain related to my work on WebView:
- Owner and tech lead of androidx.javascriptengine JetPack library.
- Co-authored the public guidelines on executing JS/WASM in Android.
- Publicly released
androidx.webkit.ProcessGlobalConfig
- Committer status in Chromium Open Source Project and part of Chromium Android Sheriff Rotation.
I like to be proactive and systematic in order to get things done. I am a lover of great designs and ideas.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading books and articles on a spectrum of topics. These include tech, design thinking, philosophy etc.
I wish happiness to everyone out there!
